The 18 Day Best of Uganda Gorilla and chimp trekking, birding and wildlife safari takes you through birding, wildlife and primate destinations.

15-Days Uganda and Kenya Wildlife Safari unleashes the best you should expect on a Ugandan and Kenya Safari. You will begin your trip as you reach Uganda’s capital city “Kampala” and may have a short city tour for the day. You will then leave the city the following day and drive to the 2nd top safari national park called Murchison Falls national park, then continue to other remarkable destinations including, Queen Elizabeth national Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation and Lake Mburo national park.

You’ll then drive back to kampala via the Equator line that separates the earth into two different parts i.e, the North and Southern hemisphere. You will then transfer to Enteebe International Airport for your flight to Kenya. You will visit Masai Mara National Reserve which is the epic centre of the Great Wildebeest Migration.

Expect to see a lot of wildlife, the big four animals, Mountain Gorillas, chimpanzees and amazing sceneries within this safari.

Day 1: Airport pick up and transfer to the Hotel.

On this day, you will be warmly welcomed at the airport by one of our professional tour guides. From the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel for check in.

Depending on your arrival time, you may go for a short city tour to see how Entebbe looks like and also buy some few locally made items like Ugandan branded Jerseys, huts and other items that you may love at the Entebbe craft market.

You will later head back to the hotel in the evening to have dinner and overnight stay. You may opt to have a night out in one of the clubs in Kampala to explore the night life in Enteebe town.

Day 2: Transfer to Ziwa rhino sanctuary for Rhino tracking and visit to the Top of the falls in Murchison falls National Park

You will be picked up from the hotel early in the morning after your breakfast and set off for Murchison Falls National Park. On your way to the park, you will branch off to Ziwa rhino sanctuary. In Nakasongola District, near Nakitoma Village is where you will get a moment to track these beautiful animals. The white Rhinos became extinct in Uganda’s national parks in 1980, but conservationists and the government through Uganda wildlife authority took the few that had remained and transferred them to the sanctuary for better protection. There are about 18 rhinos in the sanctuary at the moment and there is a plan to reintroduce them in Uganda’s game parks in the future.

Lunch will be at the sanctuary before proceeding to the Murchison falls national park. when you arrive in the park, you will drive straight to the Top of the Falls. At the top of Murchison Falls “also known as Kabalega Falls”, the Nile forces its way through a gap in the rocks that is only 8 meters wide, and tumbles 43 meters before flowing westward into Lake Albert.

Later you will drive to your lodge, check in and relax as you wait for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and afternoon Boat Cruise (optional evening game drive)  

After an early morning breakfast, you will leave for an early morning game drive looking for the early morning riser.  As you head out for the game drive, you will be in position to spot animals like the buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, Rothschild giraffes, Oribi, Kobs and waterbucks together with some bird species along the way with some feeding together with the big animals.

Later you will then head to Paara cruise point for a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile. You will have a private boat to cruise to the bottom of the falls. This Boat ride on Victoria Nile goes for 3 hours and you will be able to see some Nile crocodiles, numerous hippos, as well as various bird species. After you will return to the lodge for lunch and relax at the pool as you wait for the evening game drive.

The evening game drive will take you to see the animals as the walk back to their resting habitats and caves. You will have more opportunity to see them resting under trees and others hiding out. You will also have beautiful picture moments of the sunset and later after your evening adventure drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park with a short evening game drive.

On this day, you will have your breakfast at the lodge, check out and head to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

On your way, you will drive through various towns like via Hoima and Fort Portal were you will have lunch before heading to the park.

You will reach in the evening, and depending on the time, you may opt for a short evening game drive or relax at the lodge as you wait for the big day ahead.

Day 5: Experiential Lion & Leopard Tracking and afternoon Boat Cruise

On this day, after your early morning breakfast, you will head to “Kasenyi planes” where you will interface with the predators under the guidance of a ranger guide and researchers who drive around the park with radiation trackers which will help them to find lions that have radio collars placed around the neck.

Lion tracking experience takes about 3 hours and it’s the most rewarding game drive you can ever have while in Queen Elizabeth National Park

After lunch, you will head to Kazinga channel for a boat cruise. A boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel will offers you one of the greatest wildlife experiences in Africa and Uganda in particular. Prepare to see countless hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, water birds and many of the other park animals drinking from the channel as you enjoy the boat cruise. You will later return to the lodge with a short evening game drive as you end your day with a sunset view while resting at your accommodation.

Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking and katwe salt lake visit.

On this day, you will wake up the on an early morning breakfast so that you you are able to reach Kalinzu forest on time. This day will be an adventurous one, as you will be able to see humans’ closest cousins; the chimpanzees in Kalinzu forest. You will have a delicious breakfast and head out for a briefing session from our professional tour guides. You will then proceed to the forest for chimpanzee trekking. The forest is a habitat to over 300 chimpanzees and around 70 chimpanzee communities have been habituated for tourism purposes.

Chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu forest takes 3 to 4 hours before you meet the chimpanzee community depending on the trail that you take. This is also because chimpanzees keep moving from one place to another in search for food. You will then head back to the lodge for lunch, and later you will transfer to Lake katwe for the salt mining experience.

Lake Katwe is a customary lake on which salt mining is done, formed through long ago volcanic eruption close to 10,000 years back. There are two activities that take place there, Rock salt activity and salt winning.

Rock salt activity is carried out in the main lake by only men whereas salt winning is carried out in the salt pans by both sexes.

Later you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Cultural trail and plantation visit.

(Knowing about the locals, visit the plantation farms, prepare a local meal and have lunch with the locals, Coffee experience, cocoa study, banana plantation experience, cave visit, transparent lake.)

After your breakfast at the lodge, you will head out into the community to explore the beautiful organic culture of one of the communities leaving near the park. you will have time to visit the plantation farms, coffee tour, cocoa plantation and also get a chance to prepare food with the locals that you will feast on with them at the home stay. You will spend most of the day in the community and later return to your lodge in the evening.

As you drive back to your lodge, you will have some stopovers for site seeing of some amazing landscapes in the park. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a game drive in Ishasha sector for tree-climbing lions

After your breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and head for a morning game drive to see the tree-climbing lions. The chance of spotting these lions is about 70% though sometimes they are hard to spot (most especially when they are down in the grassland looking for prey). Should you get to spot them, the sight is picturesque and memorable.

Ishasha is one of only two places in the world where you can see tree-climbing lions together with Lake Manyara in Tanzania and they spend almost the whole day in tree branches resting from a day hunt and also escaping from the hot ground during the dry season.

Upon arrival in Bwindi, you will check in at your lodge for relaxation and overnight stay as you wait for Gorilla tracking the following day.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking and Batwa cultural experience

On this adventurous day, you wake up on an early morning breakfast and report to Bwindi Park headquarters for a short briefing with the leader tracker/ ranger guide before you start on your day activity. From here you will head into the montane forest for an encounter with the mountain gorillas.

Always watch out for their voices and listen to them grumble and the young as they swing from tree to tree, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback.

It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rain forest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. The beauty of this rainforest is spectacular and it offers a dramatic steeply forested landscape which is incredibly dense, but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists.

You will look for these endangered species and finding them will depending on the last nesting location of the previous night. The time taken to track the gorillas can be range from 4 to 7 hours or beyond. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed only one hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting and one in a life experience to be long savored.

Later, you will have a community visit to the Batwa group that are the first people to live in these forest and still reside there regardless of the many years of civilization. You will be amazed by their traditional dance, homes, dress-code and way of life. You will then return back to the lodge for dinner and rest till the following day.

Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation

After your morning breakfast at the lodge, you will proceed to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation with an impeccable stunning view of the Bunyonyi little islands. Lake Bunyonyi is framed by lush, green-terraced hills though it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical – you could admire them all day.

After lunch, you will go and explore lake Bunyonyi using a canoe and this will give you a chance to watch very many bird species found on this lake among many other beautiful places. More activities can be arranged by our driver-guide including: Historical Islands tour, visit to the Batwa/pygmies’ community, Nyombe swamp excursion, Mountain Bike cycling, Zip lining and kayaking on the lake.

Thereafter, you will return to the lodge in the evening for relaxation and have dinner then  rest till overnight stay.

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and enjoy afternoon/ evening game drive

Today, you will have your breakfast and set off to Lake Mburo National Park via Mbarara City. You will arrive at the accommodation in Lake Mburo in time for lunch, and later rest before moving for an afternoon-to-evening game drive or (Horseback riding at extra 170$).

While on your game drive, expect to see a number of animals like the gigantic eland antelopes, zebras, topi, impalas, Uganda kob and Cape buffaloes among others. Later, relax at the accommodation where you will spend the night. If interested, you may consider the night game drive to encounter nocturnal creatures which will be a rare sighting compared to the regular daytime sightings, at an extra cost (Optional, extra cost 40$):

Lake mburo national park is one of the best birding destinations with a number of bird species and a number of wildlife animals including the Zebras, giraffes, antelopes, hippos, buffaloes, topis, elands, water backs and bush backs.

Day 12: Morning walking safari and transfer to Entebbe to catch your flight

Today, you will have early breakfast at your lodge and check out as you proceed for the morning walking safari. Here you will have an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide to lead you during this walking safari. Expect to have an opportunity to encounter (at close range): Zebras, Giraffes and Eland, Topi and other antelope, and Cape buffaloes among others.

You’ll live this beautiful part of the world as you head to kampala with a stop over at the Equator Line. The Equator Line is an imaginary line that separates the earth into two different parts i.e, the North and Southern hemisphere. You will have your lunch here, take some pictures and finally drive straight to Entebbe International Airport for your flight to Kenya.

 

Arrival at the Airport and transfer to your Hotel

On arrival in Nairobi, you will be picked up by our professional driver guide from the airport, and head to your hotel for relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay

Day 13: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve.

On this beautiful morning, you will have breakfast, check out and start on your journey to Masai Mara National Reserve. While on the way, we shall stop over in town for breakfast and then proceed direct to the park. the journey will take about 5 hours as you pass through different centres and landscapes. On arrival at the lodge, your will check in and have lunch. Thereafter you will head for an evening game drive where you will have a chance to see a number of animals. These may include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, hippos, Wildebeests, Bat Eared Fox, Bushbaby, Bushbucks, Coke’s Hartebeest, Common Eland among many others.

Later return to the lodge, relax as you wait for dinner and rest till the following day.

Day 14. Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve.

Today, you will have early breakfast and head for the morning game drive in search of Africa’s Big Five mammals. More to that, the Mara presents spectacular orange-tinged sunsets that are worth photographing on clear days.

Masai Mara National Reserve is a home to a wide range of animal species for example:

  • Masai giraffes
  • Baboons
  • Warthogs
  • Bat-eared foxes
  • Gray jackals
  • Spotted hyena
  • Topis
  • Impala
  • Hartebeests
  • Wildebeests
  • Elephants
  • Buffaloes
  • Zebras, and hippos among other animals.

Occasionally, lions may be seen either basking in the sun after a large meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. On the other hand, Leopards and cheetahs are more difficult to spot, but they are fairly common.

The annual wildebeest exodus, known as the Great Migration, occurs in July and August.

Furthermore, millions of these grazers migrate north from the Serengeti in search of greener pastures, before returning south in October. After the adventure, we shall return to our lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 15. Masai Cultural visit and transfer to Nairobi.

Today, you will have your breakfast and head for a community visit in the Masai village for a cultural performance. You will learn about the culture and way of life of the Masai people. Then later you will transfer to Nairobi for your evening flight back home.
