Overview

5 Days Kilimanjaro Climbing Safari: This special hiking tour takes you to the most famous and the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro through the Marangu Route. This is also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, it is the oldest and most well-established route to Kilimanjaro because the climb is steady and gradual, many climbers prefer the Marangu route. For anyone hiking Kilimanjaro for the first time, this is the route to take and also for those who appreciate comfortable conditions.

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara

In the morning our team will give you a pre-climbing briefing and introduction before heading to Marangu Gate (1,860m). Upon arrival, you will have a quick formality of acquiring a climbing permit. After the registration, you will start trekking to Mandara Hut (2,700m), when trekking you will also pass through the rainforest (tropical showers).

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo

After early morning breakfast, you will trek towards Horombo Hut (3,720 m) the send high altitude camp. Upon arrival at Horombo Hut, you will be treated to the views of Kibo and Mawenzi. You will also spend the night at Horombo Hut, lying in a valley surrounded by giant groundsel and lobelia and you will also begin to feel the altitude.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

After early morning breakfast, you will trek towards Kibo Hut (4,700m), passing through the last watering point and walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Here you will notice the vegetation thinning out as you enter the desert-like alpine zone (4000m/13,123ft). After crossing the saddle, Kibo peak comes into view. The saddle is an alpine desert resembling the lunar landscape.
At this point, you will also start noticing the signs of altitude sickness. You will arrive at the camp for hot lunch and spend the night at Kibo Hut.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Summit

Very early in the morning (midnight 2 am) you will depart from Kibo Hut (4,700m) and the start of your trekking to Kilimanjaro summit; Uhuru peak (5,895m).
Commence the climb to the summit on steep and heavy snow up to Gilman’s (5,685m) point located in the crater rim, the best place to watch the sunrise on the Mawenzi. As you continue you will also reach the Uhuru peak which is the highest point in Africa, at the top the panoramic views of Mawenzi and Mount Meru (4,565m) beneath Kilimanjaro.

You will then descend and retrace your path to the crater rim and also make a return to Kibo Hut (4,700m), you will have lunch, before setting off to your camp at Horombo (3,720m)

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

As you descend from Horombo you will begin to encounter more vegetation to Kilimanjaro National Park’s exit; Marangu Gate (1,860m). After you descend the whole group will gather to congratulate you and you will also get a chance to share your opinion on hiking in the guest book and certificates will be provided. The driver will pick you up and also drive you back to your hotel or to the airport.
