Overview
Rushaga sector sits in the southern region of Bwindi national park and is the only gorilla trekking sector in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park where gorilla habituation is conducted therefore; Rushaga has the highest number of habituated gorilla families and is the key sector for gorilla trekking in Uganda as a whole. This makes Rushaga one of the four sectors in Bwindi national park which has the endangered species of gorillas in their natural environment in the whole world.
The sector has seven semi- habituated gorilla families for your habituation experience which are Busingye, Nshongi, Bweza, Bikyingi, Mishaya, Mucunguzi and Kahungye gorilla families. This therefore implies that there are just 54 gorilla trekking permits for available for Rushaga sector each day. Also, and each group must have only eight visitors per day.
Despite this amazing activity of watching the gorillas do their daily activities, there are other activities that can be arranged by our tour operators and can be done in Rushaga other than gorilla habituation experience.
Birding experience.
Rushaga area has quite a number of bird species which bird lovers can see. After a long time of trekking, a tourist can take his safari to another level by going bird watching. Nature walks.
Walking will help you attain knowledge about different flora and fauna which exist in the forest. You could go canoeing on Lake Bunyonyi, visit Lake Mutanda and different islands. You can further visit different accommodation facilities in the nearby towns like;

The park is located within the Batwa community since the forest was initially their home, a tourist gets a chance to interact with them about the different aspects of their lives, and how they survive and get an opportunity to learn the traditional forest life of the Batwa in Bwindi impenetrable forest. You will also enjoy their traditional dance and drama. Additionally, learn how to make traditional fire, their traditional hunting skills as well as music (from local instruments).
Best time to go trekking in Rushaga
The best time to go trekking is during the drier seasons. That period consists of January, February, June, July, August and September. The land is dry and the vegetation is green also giving you a clear view of the gorillas.
