Overview
Muyambi gorilla family: The family consists of 7 members with the leader being Muyambi, the silverback. We find this family in the Buhoma Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Muyambi gorilla family is an addition in the park since April 2020.
Muyambi, the famous silverback of the family was once a member of Mubare gorilla family. This was the first gorilla family to be trekked in the park. Muyambi was formed in 2019 after splitting with Mubare gorilla family and the trekking was first done in 2019. This was very encouraging to the Muyambi gorilla family that is, welcoming a new born infant.
About the family
This is the newest group in Buhoma region of Bwindi (since early 2019). Additionally, it consists of six members. Muyambi was an adult family member of Mubare family and it split away from the family to form another group called Muyambi group now. The gorillas are amazing to watch as they live their daily life of eating, communicating, Resting and movement on ground and in the trees. The family had a new addition who arrived in May 2020.
Access to Buhoma Sector
From Kampala or Entebbe international airport to Buhoma sector, it is approximately 8 to 9 hours drive including an en-route stop to have lunch. The main road network from Entebbe city / airport or Kampala city to Buhoma sector is Kampala – Masaka – Mbarara via Kabale, and then Buhoma sector.
By air; flights are available daily from Entebbe Airport and Kajjansi Airfield to Kihihi Airstrip. For you get to Buhoma Lodge you will fly to Kihihi airstrip and from here you will transfer to the lodge by road which will take you approximately 1 hour.
