Overview

Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge is in the Southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable forest (at 2133 meters elevation). It is a designer lodge in the jungle with styled cottages to offer its visitors a perfect place to rest and experience while on your gorilla safari in Bwindi Impenetrable national park.

The lodge offers incredibly pleasant and breathtaking views of the Albertine rift valley, Bwindi impenetrable forest and Virunga volcanoes. This is definitely an ideal place to meet the gorillas in Bwindi forest since it is in Nkuringo sector .

Rooms

The lodge has 12 designer exquisite cottages (in various categories). There are Virunga terrace rooms which have en-suite bathrooms and front terrace that has an outdoor furniture for the guests. Also, the rooms have beautiful furniture.

Garden cottages are four in number with a fireplace, veranda, outdoor furniture and beautiful handmade furniture. One of the beautiful features with the garden cottages is the large windows which give the visitor ample space to view the outside from their rooms.

Two bedroom villa are ideal for families and can accommodate up to 4 people. The bedroom villa has a veranda which overlooks Bwindi forest.

Fresh bread is always available at dinner and breakfast.
To add to that, the lodge offers fresh delicious meals at the restaurant. Also, there is a bar which has a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

A coffee shop for those who wish to have fresh made coffee anytime of the day.

How to get there

One can access the lodge by air or road.
When using the road, it takes you about 8-9 hours to reach Nkuringo sector of Bwindi National park from Kampala. It is approximately 550km away from Kampala. You can also use Rwanda to access the lodge when you travel from Kigali city and connect to Uganda via Cyanika or Katuna border.

By air, there are daily scheduled flights which fly to Kisoro airstrip in one hours’ time. The airstrip is just near Bwindi national park where on arrival, you will receive a driver to take you to the lodge.

• Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable national park.

This spectacular location is famous for its gorilla trekking activities. Nkuringo sector in which the world’s endangered gorilla species live in their natural habitat and these have got unique individuals called the silver backs which are the dominant gorilla species for each gorilla family. For any tourist to take part of these famous trekking activity, you must present a valid gorilla trekking permit which allows you to trek the gorillas and also be prepared to trek.

• Bird watching;

Bwindi national park has a total number of 323 birds in the park that are available for biding. The park is endowed with different bird species that are unique and some of which can only be traced in the Albertine rift and not any other part of Uganda like black-fly catcher African olive-pigeon, buff-spotted wood, pecker, Pettit’s cuckoo-shrike, Cassin’s flycatcher, Ruwenzori batis and many others. Some bird species can be spotted on Lake Mutanda and Mulehe as you canoe on its waters.

• Batwa cultural experience;

Bwindi forest was once a home of the indigenous Batwa people who were forced out of it when the park got gazette. Get a chance to experience the local cultures of the Batwa and the Bakiga people who live on the out skirts of the forest. A trip to these small communities will enable you to interact with these people freely, listen to their stories of the life, learn how to make fire and local food, harvest wild honey with them and get entertainment through their cultural dance and songs.
