Overview
The Kutu Gorilla Family; Firstly, the Kutu Family consists of 8 members and 1 silverback, who is the leader.
Additionally, Kutu is a new gorilla family in Rushaga area of Bwindi Park. This group is still under habituation and perfect for visitors who wish to embark on gorilla habituation experience.
Gorilla habituation experience
This is a four-hour experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park which enables tourists to spend more time with the famous apes. During this process, the mountain gorillas undergo training to get familiar with human presence and interaction.
The moment you take part in the habituation experience, you will be contributing directly to the conservation of the endangered mountain gorillas as well as the activities that make gorillas friendly to the people.
Difference between gorilla trekking and habituation
Visitors in Bwindi impenetrable forest National Park will participate in various activities. For instance making calls, tasting and collecting specimens and naming the gorillas. You can also learn about the behavior of the gorillas as you listen to the researchers. Therefore, it can be concluded that the main difference between gorilla trekking and habituation is the number of hours spent in each activity.
Gorilla habituation permit
You will need to pay for the gorilla habituation permit to be able to participate in the gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park. The gorilla habituation experience permit costs USD 1500 per person per trek and one is allowed to spend up to four hours in the wild with the endangered mountain gorillas.
How to access Rushaga sector
You can access Rushaga sector by both air and road. By air transport you can book a scheduled flight from Entebbe international airport to Kisoro airstrip. Thereafter, you can connect to Rushaga sector. Alternatively, you can fly to Kigali Rwanda and connect to Rushaga by road through Cyanika border which takes around a 3-5 hours drive.
