Overview
Lake Mutanda Resort is one of the most spacious mid-range service lodges in the Western part of Uganda. More to that, it is a great location for overall sightseeing, recreation, dining and getting around. This makes the lodge perfect for those who want to experience Uganda’s most popular attractions situated in the area renowned for gorilla tracking.
Location
The lodge is located in the South western part of Uganda in Mukozi village, Kisoro district. It is a few kilometers from Kihihi airstrip and an hour’s ride to Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park. Interestingly, both parks are known for amazing gorilla adventures. Furthermore, the lodge is found on a private peninsular in Lake Mutanda with the Virunga mountain range backdrop.
Activities
Additionally, the lodge can assist its guests with the gorilla tracking and other activities like hiking, village tours, water activities and golden monkey tracking. Due to the fact that the lodge is close to both parks, as already mentioned, activities like gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking can be arranged from the hotel.
Rooms
There are 13 en-suite cottages that come with a single, double/ twin or triple room configurations. Each cottage has a wooden platform and private veranda therefore giving you uninterrupted views and stay at the lodge. You will also be able to catch the sight of the sweeping views of the lake and distant Virunga mountain range on your private veranda. This is made possible by the fact that the lodge is located on a private peninsula in Lake Mutanda.
To pay for the rooms, the hotel has a payment policy where one can use a credit card or pay in cash. It should be noted that the lodge is child friendly and therefore suitable for family stay.
The lodge has three Room types that include the following; Mountain View, Non-smoking rooms and Family rooms.

Accessing the resort
The resort is usually accessible by road, from Kisoro, the route is in the North of the town approximately 45 minutes from Kisoro town. It can also be accessible from Rwanda via Cyanika boarder via Kabale town which is 3hours 30 minutes from Kigali-Rwanda.
Things to do on your stay at Lake Mutanda resort.
There are a number of activities with the main activity being gorilla trekking. The lodge is just one hour’s drive to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park where gorilla trekking is done. Bwindi is famous for gorilla trekking with around 400 gorilla species making it the only place in the entire world with half of the gorillas that still exist.
Tracking golden monkeys in Mgahinga national park is part of the adventures at the lodge.
Additionally, you can only find the golden monkeys in Mgahinga national park. That is an activity that you can definitely include on your safari trip as you trek in Mgahinga for gorillas. Similarly to gorilla trekking, the activity requires you to book a golden trekking permit which is only US 50$ per international visitor, 20.000 UG shillings for East African residents and US 40$ per foreign nonresident.
More about the activities
Birding takes place on Lake Mutanda on sundowner boat trips on Lake Mutanda and Lake Mulehe. Meanwhile, swimming in the lake is one of the things to do in Lake Mutanda resort.
There is also an option of Visiting Mukozi village and for the serious hikers, you can hike the Batwa trail through mountain woodland to Garama cave. A hike at Sabinyo gorge, Mount Muhavura and Mount Sabinyo or even golden monkey experience in Mgahinga gorilla national park are exceptional.
