Regulations and Rules for Hiking Mountain Rwenzori
These are some of the dos and don’ts that one should follow when visiting Mountain Rwenzori National Park;
These rules were put in place so as to protect and preserve the park so that it can be used by the future generations. Therefore it is good for every tourist to respect these rules so as to reserve the park for future generations. The Uganda government partnered with other stake holders of the tourism sector in Uganda such as the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to make valid regulations and rules that will govern the world heritage site famously known as Mountain Rwenzori National Park.
Number of people per hut per night
First of all, you need to know the park only accepts 16 persons per hut per night and as a visitor you really need to respect and observe the park’s limit number. If the number is full you can decide to post pone your first departure a day. This will help to reduce the congestion in the huts and the idea will highly be welcomed.
Cleanliness
Secondly, try the best you can to leave the park premises clean and do not litter any biodegradable or non-burnable items such as plastics, tins and silver coil. If you see any of these items littered in the environment of the park, you can volunteer and pick them and take them out of the park or your guide may help you out to carry all the rubbish you have used while in the park and takes it out of the park when your day is done.
Hygiene
Thirdly, please, please use the latrines or toilets for the all body waste. Do not make a mistake of using the forests or the thick vegetation for you to release your body wastes, it is bad and it may infect the animals with infectious diseases. Defecting or urinating in the parks environment is illegal.
Respect
Fourthly, you try to be respectful to the people that you will find in the huts. You will have to share some objects like stoves and space. Do not use radios that are on the loud speaker since the other people may want a quite environment and yet you are sharing the same hut. The crowded huts will be so joyful and pleasant if each and everybody respects the other and use the most polite language.
Do not use firewood
Fifthly, do not use firewood for making fire while you are in the park. Using the local wood to make fire is illegal in the park premises. You may come with a stove and paraffin or gas so you can use those instead of using firewood or charcoal. Also try to consider your porters by carrying minimum luggage. If you come with a lot of extra gears will mean heavier loads and you will need more porters. It is bad to carry all these extra gears because it is bad to the environment and also to your porter plus also costing you extra fee.
Do not try to create your own paths in the park
Please try not to create your own paths in the park. You are to follow your guide since the guide knows all the routes and it will be good if you follow him closely because this will reduce damaging the trails. Whenever a hiker creates a new route, they destroy vegetation and make the place muddy.
Always consult
Always ask your guides on the way they expect you to conduct yourself while in the park premises so as you can avoid making mistakes.
